About Us

About-usTropical Moose Shaved Ice is St. Louis’ premier Snow Cone Stand. Tro Mo, as it is affectionately called by its many loyal customers, got its start over ten years ago after owner Jack Williams and his wife Pat vacationed in Hawaii.  Jack, a teacher of the deaf, decided that a snow cone stand, like the ones they tried on the Island, might be an exciting way to spend summers.  He was right!!

Tropical Moose’s exclusive specialties include:

  • The Hawaiian Dream Cone – a scoop of ice cream covered with snow then topped with the flavor of your choice.
  • The Eskimo Cheesecake – a slice of cheesecake in the middle of your favorite flavored snow cone.
  • The Volcano – the world’s only exploding snow cone is topped with pop rocks.
  • The Canine Cooler – a meaty flavored snow cone made just for pets.

Tro Mo in the News

Tropical Moose fans now have another locale to indulge in their favorite flavored ice.Jack and Pat Williams have set up shop in the Kirkwood Park concession stand. With little fanfare, the company’s third snow cone location debuted May 10, garnering a decent crowd given that the announcement was made that morning, Jack said. Kirkwood Parks & Recreation officials asked if the couple was interested in the location in exchange for a percentage of sales. Tropical Moose pulled in $160,000 from its two locations — downtown Kirkwood (open only during the summer months) and its year-round Webster Groves shop, which also offers Belgian sugar waffles with dipping sauces — and from special events last year. Jack, a Marine and Vietnam Purple Heart recipient, isn’t giving up his day job yet as a teacher in the Special School District, but he’s getting closer, Pat said.

The Kirkwood Park location is expected to bring in about $30,000 this year, and plans call for adding waffles in the downtown Kirkwood shop and launching a waffle wagon, according to Pat. The Kirkwood Park location is open 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. daily starting Saturday, May 14. Tropical Moose will also reopen Saturday, May 14, at the downtown Kirkwood location in the Farmer’s Market and be open from noon to 10 p.m. daily.
